Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana: Per Drop More Crop

Details about Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana: Per Drop More Crop

The Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) – Per Drop More Crop, launched by the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, on 1st July 2015, aims to improve water use efficiency in farming. The scheme promotes the adoption of micro-irrigation techniques such as drip and sprinkler systems. Additionally, it supports water conservation efforts and micro-level water storage to help farmers make the most of water resources.

Objectives:

  • Expand micro-irrigation across farms to enhance water efficiency.
  • Boost crop productivity and farmers’ income through precise water management.
  • Encourage micro-irrigation in water-heavy crops like sugarcane, banana, and cotton.
  • Promote fertigation through micro-irrigation systems.
  • Focus on water-scarce and drought-prone areas for optimal irrigation solutions.
  • Link energy-efficient irrigation systems like tube-well or river-lift projects with micro-irrigation.
  • Ensure coordination with ongoing schemes and projects for efficient water use.

Key Features:

  • PMKSY aims to create reliable irrigation by capturing rainwater at the micro-level, emphasizing “Jal Sanchay” (water storage) and “Jal Sinchan” (water irrigation).
  • Micro-irrigation is a core part of the scheme, ensuring that every drop of water is efficiently used at the farm level.
  • The scheme has four components: Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP), Per Drop More Crop (PDMC), Har Khet Ko Pani, and Watershed Development.
  • The State Agriculture Department or a designated nodal department handles the implementation of “Per Drop More Crop.”

This initiative not only helps to increase agricultural production but also creates employment opportunities for skilled and unskilled workers, especially for the installation and maintenance of micro-irrigation systems.
